In today’s digital world, we rely heavily on the internet and our devices to do pretty much everything. This means that more of our sensitive information like financial data, personal information, and even intellectual property is hosted on devices like our phone or computers. This has led to the high demand for cybersecurity professionals and specialists and has created various career paths for students to explore within the industry.

Admission Requirements

Standard Admission

1. Alberta high school diploma/GED with English 30-1 and passing grade of 65%, verified by transcript, or non-Alberta equivalent. 2. Successful interview with school administration.

Mature Admission

1. Must be 18 years or older (BC residents must be 19 years of age). 2. Successful completion of Wonderlic Test with a passing score of 20. 3. Successful interview with school administration. For students whose first language is not English and they don't have high school diploma from Alberta or equivalent high school diploma from other provinces, they must meet a Canadian Language Benchmark of 5.

Course Components

Introduction to Computers

This course teaches students about the fundamentals of an operating system along with application software including word processing and spreadsheets. Students will learn about the Internet, popular Web browsers, email and antivirus software.

PC Computer Service: Hardware

This course introduces students to various hardware components that make up a computer system. Students develop a systematic approach to troubleshooting hardware.

PC Computer Service: Software

This course covers the installation, configuration and troubleshooting of operating system software and application software packages. Student will also learn about the security issues involving software installations.

Scripting and Programming

This course introduces students to programming, data types and flow control. Students will learn the basics of design concepts and will learn about the distinction between interpreted and compiled languages.

Windows Client Operating System Configuration

This course will provide the students with a variety of topics such as Windows 10 installation, networking configuration, storage, data access, remote management, system recovery configuration and authorization.

Windows Devices Configuration

Students of this course will adopt the necessary skills to deploy, configure and support applications and devices. This course covers configuration of settings to support data storage, remote connections and desktop applications. Students will learn to use Microsoft Intune.

Windows Server: Installation and Storage

This course covers the installation, configuration and storage of Windows Server 2016. Students will learn to perform installations and to network storage systems. This course delves into cluster servers management and virtual machine management with Microsoft Hyper-V (formerly Windows Server Virtualization).

Linux Fundamentals

Linux system installation and support is covered in this course along with Linux scripting, processes and scheduling. Students will learn to compile and install software on a Linux system. Students will learn to configure graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and use Linux commands to perform a variety of tasks.

Microsoft Visio

Students are introduced to Microsoft Visio and learn to create workflows and perform flowcharting and diagrams. This course covers the tools and features of Visio so that students will be able to create sophisticated charts and diagrams.

Active Directory Infrastructure

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills to administer and configure Active Directory infrastructure under Windows Server 2016. Students will also learn to install and configure domain controllers and the creation of active directory users, computers and groups. Configuring Service Authentication, group policies, object and settings are also explored in the course. Active Directory Certificate services and Active Directory Federation services installation and configuration are also covered in the course.

Computer Science Cryptology

This course covers computer cryptology that focuses on secrecy, authentication and integrity. Students are introduced to algorithms used for cryptographic key generation, digital signing and confidential information sharing.

Internet Communication Protocols

This course covers the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) protocol stack suite. Students will learn about IP and protocols for address resolution, routing and Internet control. Telnet and file transfer are also covered in detail.

Cisco Networking - Routing & Switching

Students learn about building, configuring and troubleshooting Cisco devices, router and switches, as well as implementing IP Address schemes. Students will have hands on experience with Catalyst switches, routers, and Cisco Packet Tracers.

Network+

This course introduces students to the theory of networks and teaches them to set up and configure networks. Wireless networks, Voice over IP network capabilities and network security are also covered in the Network course.

Network and Computer Security

This course looks at network and computer security and the implications if it is compromised. Students will learn to detect security threats and thoroughly identify the sources of the security threats. Methods to detect and neutralize network and system security threats are covered in this course. Security disaster recovery is also covered in this course.

Windows Server – Networking

Students will learn to implement and configure networking services under Windows Server 2016. Implementing IPv4 and IPv6 addressing and DNS and DHCP server installation are covered in this course along with Distributed File System implementation.

Securing Windows Server

This course is centered on the required knowledge to secure a Windows Server 2016 implementation. Students will learn about disk configuration and file encryption as well as Windows Firewall and security baselines. This course provides students with the skills and knowledge to work with Operations Management Suite to determine detection solutions. Securing an Application Development Server workload and implementing a secure files services infrastructure with dynamic access control are examined in great detail.

Cyber Security Fundamentals

This course provides the students with an introduction to the field of cyber security. Students will learn fundamental concepts of cyber security defence and securing the perimeter and local network. This course will teach students to identify vulnerabilities and the plan to counteract to mitigate the risks.

Mobile Device Security

This course examines the security measures to mitigate breaches on wireless networks and mobile devices. Students learn about the strategy and procedures to manage various cyber threats and vulnerabilities. This course also covers mobile application assessments and the techniques used to prevent security attacks.

Security Analysis

Students of this course will learn about the roles and responsibilities of Cyber Security Specialists. The course covers the tools and tactics that the Cyber Security Specialists use to manage security threats, security intelligence collection and situational protocols.

Resume Writing & Professional Skills

Course Description: Students work with a professional career counsellor to develop and optimize a professional resume to put forward for employers. Additional support in job searching, interview techniques, and other career transition skills are offered to ensure students have the best possible work prospects.
